The intent of this blog is to use the stories and lessons I have accumulated over my unconventional career to help others navigate life. A colleague and good friend pointed out to me that much of what a pilot does on a single flight can be applied to life and that “someone should write a book about it”. It seems he planted a seed because as I flew airplanes and spoke with fellow crew members I discovered how right he was.
I have been in the airline and aviation industries for nearly 30 years. I have written manuals, developed training, and trained hundreds of pilots in classrooms, simulators, and aircraft. As a part of management I have also been involved in the decision-making behind the scenes at a few airlines.
I have worked for nearly every type of aviation and airline business that exists in the United States - privately held, publicly traded, growing, shrinking, passenger, cargo, charter, scheduled, large, small, international, domestic, etc. I am fortunate to have had an opportunity to experience so much of a dynamic industry that many people find fascinating.
My career and personal life have been interesting and somewhat unconventional. I have seen (and made) bad and good choices and learned a great deal along the way. This isn’t a book, yet, but it is my sincere hope that you will find this blog interesting, and maybe helpful. I do enjoy working on it.
==========================================
To earn the respect of intelligent people and to win the affection of children; to appreciate the beauty in nature and all that surrounds us; to seek out and nurture the best in others; to give the gift of yourself to others without the slightest thought of return, for it is in giving that we receive; to have accomplished a task, whether it be saving a lost soul, healing a sick child, writing a book, or risking your life for a friend; to have celebrated and laughed with great joy and enthusiasm and sung with exaltation; to have hope even in times of despair, for as long as you have hope, you have life; to love and be loved; to be understood and to understand; to know that even one life has breathed easier because you have lived; this is the meaning of success.
